파주시 교하도서관이 의복을 실마리 삼아 어린이들에게 세계사를 소개하는 특별 행사를 마련했다.

오는 6월 14일 오후 3시, 교하도서관 2층 문화강연실에서 독서문화 프로그램 '시간 여행자의 옷장'이 열린다. 

초등 4학년부터 6학년까지 20명이 참여할 수 있으며, 행사는 오후 5시까지 두 시간 동안 진행된다.

이번 행사의 출발점은 단순한 질문이며 '사람들은 각 시대에 어떤 옷을 입었을까?' 교하도서관은 이 질문을 역사 탐구의 문으로 활용했다.

어린 독자들이 매일 입고 벗는 옷이라는 친근한 소재에서 출발해 시대마다 달랐던 사람들의 삶과 문화, 역사적 변화를 입체적으로 들여다보도록 프로그램을 설계한 것이다.

강사로는 관련 도서 「시간 여행자의 옷장—옷 한 벌에 담긴 놀라운 세계사」를 집필한 김윤하 작가가 나서며 참가 어린이들은 저자와 함께 책 속 이야기를 따라가며 각 시대 의상 뒤에 숨은 역사적 맥락을 탐색하고 퀴즈 풀기, 종이인형 만들기, 투명부채 꾸미기 등 손을 움직이는 체험 활동도 곁들여져 배운 내용을 몸으로 익힐 수 있도록 구성했다.

이재면 교하도서관장은 "역사가 멀게 느껴지는 아이들도 옷이라는 친근한 출발점에서 시작하면 훨씬 쉽게 세계사로 들어올 수 있다"며 "책 읽기와 문화 체험을 함께 엮는 프로그램을 앞으로도 꾸준히 선보이겠다"고 말했다.

Paju Gyoha Library has organized a special event to introduce world history to children using clothing as a starting point.

The reading culture program 'Time Traveler's Wardrobe' will be held on June 14 at 3:00 PM in the Culture Lecture Room on the second floor of Gyoha Library.

Twenty students from grades 4 through 6 can participate, and the event will run for two hours until 5:00 PM.

The starting point of this event is a simple question: "What kind of clothes did people wear in each era?" Gyoha Library has utilized this question as a gateway to historical inquiry.

Starting from the familiar subject of clothes—which young readers wear and take off every day—the program is designed to allow for a multi-dimensional look into the lives, cultures, and historical changes of people that differed across eras. Author Kim Yun-ha, who wrote the related book *The Time Traveler's Wardrobe: The Amazing History of the World in a Single Outfit*, served as the instructor. The program is designed to allow participating children to physically internalize what they have learned by following the story in the book alongside the author, exploring the historical context hidden behind the costumes of each era, and engaging in hands-on activities such as solving quizzes, making paper dolls, and decorating transparent fans.

Lee Jae-myeon, Director of Gyoha Library, stated, "Even children who find history distant can enter the realm of world history much more easily if they start from the familiar starting point of clothing," adding, "We will continue to consistently present programs that combine reading with cultural experiences."
