고양특례시가 하수관로 막힘과 하수처리장 고장의 주요 원인인 잘못된 생활하수 배출을 근절하기 위한 시민 인식 개선 캠페인에 돌입했다.

시는 지난 11일 일산동구 일산문화광장 일대에서 상하수도사업소 및 관내 공공하수처리시설 직원들과 함께 '올바른 생활하수 배출 요령' 길거리 캠페인을 전개했다고 13일 밝혔다.

이번 캠페인은 불법 오물분쇄기 사용과 변기 내 물티슈 투입 등으로 인한 하수관로 막힘, 하수 역류, 하수처리시설 고장이 빈번하게 발생함에 따라 기획됐다.

이로 인해 막대한 예산과 행정력이 낭비되고 있어 예방 차원의 시민 참여가 절실한 상황이다.

특히 시는 신축 공공주택을 중심으로 주방용 오물분쇄기 설치가 증가하면서 고농도 하수 유입에 따른 하수처리장 부하가 심각해지고 있다고 진단했다. 

이에 캠페인과 병행해 불법 주방용 오물분쇄기에 대한 지도·점검 및 홍보·계도 활동을 함께 추진할 계획이다.

시가 제시한 올바른 생활하수 배출 요령은 다음과 같다.

첫째, 물티슈·위생용품·음식물 찌꺼기의 변기 투입을 금지해야 한다. 

이들 물질은 물에 녹지 않아 하수관로를 막는 주요 원인이 된다.

둘째, 불법 오물분쇄기 사용을 중단해야 한다.
