고양특례시 일산동구는 20년이 넘은 일산동구청 앞 광장을 안전하고 편안한 거리로 조성하기 위한 ‘일산동구 청사 앞 광장 보도환경 개선 사업’을 본격 추진한다고 밝혔다.

이번 사업은 광장 3,066㎡ 구간을 대상으로 한다.

보도블록 교체 등으로 보행환경을 개선하고 고양시청 녹지과와 협업해 청사 외벽에 수직정원을 조성함으로써 ‘걷고 싶고, 머물고 싶은 거리’를 만들 방침이다. 

구는 오는 3월 17일부터 공사를 시작하여, 올해 6월까지 사업을 완료할 계획이다. 

사업의 주요내용은 ▲노후 보도블록을 대형 보도블록으로 교체 ▲통행과 시야를 방해하던 공공조형물 철거 ▲광장 중앙에 팝아트 보도 패턴 적용 ▲가로수 정비 및 수목보호대 교체 등이다.

또한 고양시 녹지과에서는 ▲광장 좌측과 우측 외벽 녹화 ▲외벽 하부 정원 조성 ▲경관조명 설치 등 수직정원 조성 사업을 동시에 추진해 환경친화적인 휴식 공간을 마련할 예정이다.

지창섭 자치행정과장은 “이번 사업을 통해 청사 앞 광장이 잠시 지나치는 통행 공간이 아닌, 주민들이 머물고 소통할 수 있는 공간으로 탈바꿈할 것”이라며 “공사 기간 중 발생할 수 있는 주민 불편을 최소화하기 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.[고양=박정호 기자]
