고양특례시는 지난 7일 향동지역 직소민원에 대해 주민 대표와 면담을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

교통국장 주관으로 교통정책과장 및 건축정책과장이 참석한 가운데 열린 이날 면담에서는 향동역(경의중앙선) 조기 착공과 데이터센터 추가 건립에 대한 주민들의 우려가 주요 의제로 다루어졌다. 

주민들은 향동지구와 화전동 지역의 교통 환경이 열악하다는 점을 강조하며, 출퇴근 시간대 교통정체로 불편을 겪고 있다고 호소했다. 

이에 따라 향동역(경의중앙선)의 조속한 착공을 요청했다.

이에 대해 시는 “향동역의 경우 국가철도공단의 사업비 확정을 기다리고 있는 상황이며, 그 결과에 따라 대응할 준비를 하고 있다”고 설명했다. 

또한 주민들은 향동동 내 이미 운영 중인 데이터센터 외에 추가적인 데이터센터 건립도 적극 반대하는 입장을 밝혔다. 

주민들은 데이터센터의 경관 개선을 강하게 촉구했으며, 지역 주민이 받는 피해에 대해 제대로 된 대안을 요청했다. 

이에 대해 시는 “해당 데이터센터는 적법하게 처리된 사항으로 이를 취소하는 것은 어렵다”면서도 “주민들의 의견을 적극 청취하고 민원사항을 논의해 방안을 찾는 노력을 지속할 것”이라는 뜻을 내비쳤다.

이날 면담에서 주민들은 행정 절차가 적법하게 진행된다 하더라도, 해당 과정에서 주민 불편과 민원 사항이 충분히 고려되어야 한다는 점을 강조했다. 

이에 대해 시는 “향후에도 지속적인 소통을 통해 주민들의 목소리를 경청하고, 정책 추진 시 주민 의견을 최대한 반영할 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
