고양특례시가 농촌 지역의 토양과 수질오염을 예방하고 자원순환 체계를 강화하기 위해 폐농약병 공동 분리수거함을 설치하는 등 친환경 농업환경 조성에 나섰다.

고양시는 지난 14일 영농 과정에서 발생하는 폐농약병을 체계적으로 수거·관리하기 위해 관내 7개 영농지역에 '폐농약병 공동 분리수거함' 18개를 설치했다고 15일 밝혔다.

그동안 일부 농촌지역에서는 사용이 끝난 폐농약병과 영농폐기물이 적절히 처리되지 못한 채 방치되면서 농촌 경관을 훼손하고, 잔류 농약으로 인한 토양 및 수질오염 등 2차 환경오염의 원인으로 지적돼 왔다.

이에 시는 농업인들이 보다 편리하게 폐농약병을 배출할 수 있도록 농경지 인근 거점지역에 전용 수거함을 설치했다. 

수거된 폐농약병은 전문 처리 과정을 거쳐 재활용 원료로 활용되며, 이를 통해 플라스틱 자원의 순환과 탄소배출 저감 효과도 기대하고 있다.

이번 사업은 고양시 농촌지도자회를 중심으로 생활개선고양시연합회(회장 김정임)가 함께 참여하는 민관 협력사업으로 추진된다. 

덕양구와 일산동구, 일산서구 등 7개 농촌지도자 지구회가 수거 활동을 맡아 지역별 영농폐기물 관리에 적극 나설 계획이다.

고양시는 이번 공동수거 사업을 통해 폐농약병과 폐비닐, 포대 등 연간 100~150톤 규모의 영농폐기물을 안정적으로 회수할 수 있을 것으로 전망하고 있다.

시 관계자는 "농업환경 보전은 안전한 먹거리 생산과 지속 가능한 농업을 위한 가장 기본적인 과제"라며 "농촌지도자회와 생활개선회가 함께하는 이번 공동수거 사업을 계기로 농업 분야의 탄소중립 실천 문화를 확산하고 깨끗한 농촌 환경 조성에 최선을 다하겠다"고 말했다.
