고양특례시는 제31회 환경의 날을 맞아 지난 5일 공릉천문화체육공원 필리핀참전비 앞 하천변에서 ‘2026년 생태계 교란 식물 퇴치행사’를 개최했다고 8일 밝혔다.

이번 행사는 고양하천네트워크 소속 고양환경단체협의회가 주최하고 고양시가 후원했으며, 고양환경단체협의회 회원 50여 명을 비롯해 고양시 공무원과 육군 제1군단 장병 150여 명 등 총 250여 명의 민·관·군이 참여해 기후위기 대응과 생물다양성 보전을 위한 뜻을 모았다.

행사는 국민의례를 시작으로 환경의 날 유공자 표창, 고양시 환경헌장 낭독, 생태계 교란 식물 식별 및 제거 요령 교육 등의 순서로 진행됐다.

이날 고양시는 지역 환경보전에 기여한 시민과 단체 관계자 19명에게 고양시장 표창을 수여하며 감사의 뜻을 전했다. 

이어 참가자들은 환경헌장을 함께 낭독하며 기후위기 대응과 생물다양성 보전을 위한 실천 의지를 다졌다. 

또한 본격적인 퇴치 활동에 앞서 생태계 교란 식물의 특성과 효과적인 제거 방법에 대한 교육도 실시됐다.

기념식을 마친 참가자들은 공릉천 일대로 이동해 생태계 교란 식물 제거 활동을 펼쳤다. 

특히 하천변에 군락을 형성하며 토종식물의 생육을 방해하는 단풍잎돼지풀과 가시박을 집중적으로 제거했다. 

참가자들은 뿌리째 뽑는 방식으로 외래식물을 제거하며 건강한 하천 생태계 조성에 힘을 보탰다. 

이와 함께 하천 주변 쓰레기를 수거하는 환경정화 활동도 병행했다.

단풍잎돼지풀과 가시박은 강한 번식력으로 토종 생태계를 위협하는 대표적인 생태계 교란 식물이다.

고양시는 이들 외래식물의 확산을 방지하고 건강한 생태환경을 유지하기 위해 매년 퇴치 사업을 추진하고 있다.

권해원 고양환경단체협의회장은 “고양시의 적극적인 협력 덕분에 민·관·군이 함께 지역 하천을 가꾸는 뜻깊은 행사를 성공적으로 마칠 수 있었다”며 “앞으로도 고양하천네트워크의 중심 단체로서 지역 생태계를 지키는 데 앞장서겠다”고 말했다.
