6·3 지방선거를 사흘 앞둔 지난 31일, 선거 전 마지막 일요일을 맞아 국민의힘 이동환 고양시장 후보가 화정역 광장과 일산호수공원을 오가며 판세를 굳히기 위한 막판 총력 유세를 펼쳤다.

이날 유세 현장에는 안철수 의원, 나경원 의원, 김문수 전 대통령 후보, 양향자 경기도지사 후보 등 국민의힘과 범여권의 중량급 스타 정치인들이 대거 합류해 이동환 후보의 재선 당위성을 피력하며 전폭적인 지원사격을 퍼부었다.

주말을 맞아 유세장을 찾은 수많은 고양시민과 지지자들은 후보들의 이름을 연호하며 현장 분위기를 뜨겁게 달궜다.

저녁 7시, 화정역 광장에서 열린 야간 집중유세에서 지원 연설에 나선 나경원 의원은 고양시의 도약을 위한 ‘시정 연속성’을 강력히 주장했다.

나 의원은 “다른 1기 신도시들이 눈부시게 발전할 때 고양시는 규제에 묶여 정체되어 있었다”고 지적하며, “이동환 후보가 땀 흘려 추진해 온 경제자유구역 지정과 교통 혁신을 완성하기 위해서는 반드시 다시 한번 기회를 주어야 한다”고 강조했다.

이에 앞서 오후 일산호수공원 분수대 광장과 오전 화정역 유세에서도 거물급 인사들의 릴레이 연설이 이어졌다. 

오전 유세에 동참한 안철수 의원은 “고양특례시가 한 단계 더 도약하기 위해서는 검증된 경제 전문가 이동환 후보가 필수적”이라며 미래 성장 동력 확보를 위한 적임자임을 선언했다.

오후 호수공원 유세에서 마이크를 잡은 김문수 전 대통령 후보는 “이동환 후보만큼 도시계획과 기업 유치 분야에서 탁월한 전문성을 갖춘 인물을 찾기 어렵다”라며, “고양시가 세계로 뻗어나가는 글로벌 연결 도시로 성장하기 위해서는 이동환 후보의 행정 경험이 절대적으로 필요하다”고 힘을 실었다.

캠프 관계자는 “오늘 유세는 이동환 후보의 재선이 곧 고양시 발전으로 이어진다는 점을 시민들에게 알리는 자리였다”며 “투표일까지 시민 한 분 한 분을 만나 진심을 전달하고 반드시 승리로 보답하겠다”고 말했다.
