파주시 임진각에 위치한 민방위 정부지원 대피시설이 시민과 관광객을 위한 복합 문화예술공간으로 새롭게 탈바꿈한다.

파주시는 최근 파주문화재단과 함께 ‘임진각 민방위 정부지원 대피시설’의 평시 활용을 위한 업무협약을 체결하고, 해당 시설을 미술전시관과 문화공연장 등 다목적 문화예술공간으로 운영할 계획이라고 밝혔다.

이번 협약은 대피시설의 본래 기능인 주민 보호 역할은 그대로 유지하면서도, 평상시에는 문화예술 활동이 가능한 공간으로 적극 활용해 시민 친화적인 문화 거점으로 조성하는 데 목적이 있다.

공간 조성을 위한 사업비도 확보됐다. 

파주시는 경기도가 주관한 ‘2026년 주민대피시설 평시활용 지원사업’ 공모에 선정돼 총 1억4천만 원의 사업비를 확보했다. 사업비는 도비 30%, 시비 70%로 구성된다.

시는 확보한 예산을 활용해 노후화된 내부 시설을 전면 개선하고, 전시와 공연, 각종 문화행사가 가능한 다목적 문화예술공간으로 리모델링을 추진할 예정이다.
