국민의힘 이석균 경기도의원 예비후보(남양주 화도·수동)가 지난 10일 선거사무소 개소식을 열고 본격적인 재선 행보에 돌입했다. 

이날 행사에는 지역 주민과 이장협의회 관계자, 각계 인사, 지지자들이 대거 참석해 이 후보를 향한 높은 관심과 기대를 드러냈다.

남양주시 화도읍 동광빌딩에서 열린 개소식 현장은 행사 시작 전부터 지지자들의 발길이 이어지며 뜨거운 열기로 가득 찼다. 

참석자들은 지역 현안 해결과 남양주 동부권 발전에 대한 기대감을 나타내며 이 후보의 재선을 응원했다.

이 후보는 인사말에서 ‘약속을 지키는 정치’와 ‘성과로 증명하는 실천 정치’를 핵심 가치로 제시했다. 

그는 “정치는 결국 신뢰라고 생각한다”며 “한 번 한 약속은 반드시 지키겠다는 마음으로 지금까지 걸어왔고, 앞으로도 지역 주민들과의 약속을 끝까지 책임지는 정치인이 되겠다”고 밝혔다.

이어 “정치인은 말보다 결과로 평가받아야 한다”며 “이석균이라는 사람이 아니라, 지역 발전을 이끌 수 있는 도구로서 주민들이 체감할 수 있는 변화를 만들어내겠다”고 강조했다. 

특히 그는 현장 중심의 소통 정치를 언급하며 “언제나 주민들 곁에서 함께 고민하고 해결책을 찾는 정치인이 되겠다”고 말했다.

제11대 경기도의회에서 활동하며 중앙정부와 경기도, 남양주시를 연결하는 가교 역할을 수행했고, 생활 기반시설과 교통·문화·체육 인프라 확충을 위한 예산 확보에 강점을 보여왔다는 평가다.

실제로 주민들 사이에서도 “말보다 결과로 보여주는 정치인”, “예산 확보와 추진력이 강한 후보”라는 반응이 이어지고 있다. 

GTX-B 노선과 교통망 확충, 지역 균형 발전 등 남양주 동부권의 주요 현안 해결 과정에서 이 후보의 경험과 실무 능력이 강점으로 작용할 것이라는 전망도 나온다.

연세대학교 학부와 대학원을 졸업하고 미국 오리건주립대학교 대학원에서 이학석사 학위를 취득한 이 후보는 남양주시 유기농박물관장과 남양주시청 대외협력팀장 등을 역임하며 행정과 정책 분야 경험을 쌓아왔다.
