파주시가 평화경제특구 유치를 향한 강력한 의지를 대내외에 천명했다.

파주시는 지난 7일 파주시민회관 대공연장에서 '평화경제특구 비전 선포식'을 개최했다고 밝혔다. 

이날 행사에는 김경일 파주시장을 비롯해 주요 내빈과 평화경제특구 유치 시민추진단, 시민 등 200여 명이 참석했다.

행사는 파주시립예술단의 식전 공연을 시작으로 개회식, 평화경제특구 비전 발표, 시민추진단 2기 위촉식 순으로 진행됐다.

김경일 시장은 비전 발표를 통해 평화를 기반으로 한 경제 성장과 신산업 생태계 구축을 목표로 하는 파주 평화경제특구의 추진 방향을 구체적으로 제시했다.

특히 이날 행사에서는 지난해 12월 구성된 '평화경제특구 유치 시민추진단 2기' 위촉식이 함께 열려 민관 협력 추진 체계의 본격 가동을 알렸다.

행사 마지막에는 멋글씨 예술가 이화선 작가가 참여한 붓글씨 시연이 이어졌으며, 김경일 시장과 내빈, 시민추진단 대표가 함께한 장붓 시연을 통해 '평화경제특구 파주' 유치에 대한 강한 의지를 상징적으로 표현하며 현장 분위기를 고조시켰다.

김경일 시장은 "평화경제특구는 남북경제협력의 열쇠이자, 100만 자족도시 파주의 튼튼한 날개가 될 것"이라며 "평화경제특구가 파주에 유치되는 그날까지 최선을 다하겠다"고 밝혔다.

평화경제특구는 2023년 「평화경제특별구역의 지정 및 운영에 관한 법률」 제정·시행으로 법적 근거가 마련됐다. 

세제 혜택과 기반 시설 지원 등 다양한 보상을 통해 기업 투자 유치 활동을 적극 촉진할 수 있는 특별구역이다.

통일부는 지난해 12월 26일 2026년부터 2027년까지 평화경제특구 4개소 내외를 지정하는 내용의 '제1차 평화경제특구 기본계획'을 전자관보에 고시했다.

이에 따라 파주시는 통일부 평화경제특구 지정 계획과 경기도 평화경제특구 개발계획에 신속히 대응하기 위한 '파주 평화경제특구 지정 대응 용역' 계약 절차를 추진 중이다. 

시는 올해 1월 중 업체 선정을 완료하고 용역에 착수할 예정이라고 밝혔다.
