파주시가 평화경제특구 조성을 위한 시민 공감대 확산에 나선다.

파주시는 오는 8일 '평화경제특구 유치 염원 걷기대회'를 개최한다고 밝혔다. 

이번 행사는 평화경제특구 유치에 대한 시민들의 염원을 모으고 공감대를 넓히기 위해 마련됐다.

행사는 오후 12시부터 17시까지 진행되며, 개회식은 오후 3시 문산천 노을길 광장(문산읍 내포리 76-85)에서 열린다. 

김경일 파주시장과 시민 약 500명이 참석한 가운데 문산천 노을길을 따라 약 4.5km 구간을 걷는 대회가 펼쳐진다.

파주시가 주최하고 파주시민포럼이 주관하는 이번 걷기대회는 평화경제특구 유치에 관심 있는 파주시민이라면 누구나 무료로 참여할 수 있다. 

걷기대회 외에도 지역 예술인들의 특별공연 등 다채로운 볼거리가 마련돼 있다.

김경일 파주시장은 "이번 걷기대회가 파주 평화경제특구 유치를 위한 시민들의 염원을 함께 나누는 소중한 자리가 되기를 바란다"고 말했다.

파주시는 '100만 자족도시' 달성을 위한 핵심 사업으로 평화경제특구 조성을 추진하고 있다. 

평화경제특구가 파주에 조성되면 대규모 산업단지 및 관광특구 개발이 가능해져 파주와 경기 북부 지역의 경제 발전은 물론 대한민국 경제 성장에도 크게 기여할 것으로 전망된다.

파주시는 지난 9월 시민들과 함께한 학술 토론회(심포지엄)를 시작으로 이번 걷기대회를 거쳐 내년 1월 '비전선포식'까지 평화경제특구 유치의 필요성을 알리고 시민들의 이해를 높이기 위한 다양한 홍보활동을 지속적으로 전개할 계획이다.
