파주시가 올해부터 새롭게 지정한 ‘대중교통의 날(2월 11일)’을 기념하기 위해 당일 관내 모든 마을버스를 무료로 운행하기로 했다.

시는 지난 5일 「파주시 대중교통 이용편의 증진 기본 조례」를 개정해 ‘대중교통의 날’을 지정하고, 이를 시민에게 널리 알리기 위해 관내 마을버스 1일 무료 운행을 진행한다. 

무료 운행은 파주시를 운행하는 모든 마을버스 노선에서 시행된다. 파주시민뿐만 아니라 해당 노선을 이용하는 승객이면 무료로 이용할 수 있다.

이용 방법은 승차 시 현금이나 교통카드 단말기를 찍지 않고 탑승하면, 이용 요금이 전부 면제되며 하차 시에도 카드 단말기를 찍지 않아야 한다. 

이번 마을버스 무료 운행으로 대중교통 이용을 촉진하고 시민들의 교통비 부담을 줄여줄 것으로 기대하고 있다. 

김경일 파주시장은 “대중교통 이용을 유도하고 시민들의 이동 편의를 높이기 위해 이번 행사를 마련했다”라며 “파주시가 기본사회 선도도시로 거듭나도록 보다 효율적인 대중교통 서비스 제공을 위해 노력하겠다”라고 말했다.
