고양도시관리공사는 지난 18일 한국프레스센터에서 열린 제26회 아름다운 화장실 대상 공모에서 동상(행정안전부장관상)을 수상했다고 21일 밝혔다.

아름다운 화장실 대상은 행정안전부와 (사)한국화장실문화협회가 깨끗하고 안전한 화장실 문화 조성을 위해 매년 공모하고 있고, 공사는 고양시로부터 수탁받아 운영 중인 토당문화플랫폼 화장실을 응모하였다. 

공사는 최근 토당문화플랫폼과 경의중앙선을 따라 산책하는 사람이 증감함에 따라 시민 편의성을 높이기 위해 부속 화장실을 24시간 개방하는 공중화장실로 전환하고 시설을 개선하였다.

토당문화플랫폼은 지역 활성화를 위해 옛 능곡역을 문화예술공간으로 리모델링한 곳이다. 

토당문화플랫폼 화장실은 플랜테리어 디자인을 적용하여 새롭게 단장되었고, 옛 역사에 남아있던 담벼락과 은행나무가 어우러지면서 아름다운 풍경과 안녕감 역시 제공하고 있다. 

또한 어린이 겸용 세면대와 재실감지센서, 안심비상벨 등 편의·안전시설을 확충하였다. 

이와 같은 시설 개선을 저비용 예산으로 실행하고 시민 체감도를 높인 점이 좋은 평가로 이어져 행정안전부장관상 수상의 영예를 안았다.

공사 강승필 사장은 “앞으로도 고양시민의 쾌적하고 안전한 화장실 이용을 위해 공사가 수탁 운영 중인 시설을 꾸준히 점검하고 개선해 나갈 것이며, 토당문화플랫폼 화장실을 시작으로 고양특례시 공중화장실이 전국에서 가장 깨끗하고 아름다운 화장실이 될 수 있는 문화 전파에 최선을 다하겠다“고 밝혔다.[고양=박정호 기자]
