(The World Journal of Men’s Health (impact factor: 5.4))에 발표했다.

Professor Kim Hyung-seok of Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital presented research results related to vitamin D and erectile dysfunction

Erectile Dysfunction in Elderly Patients Complaining of Urinary Disorder is Associated with Vitamin D Deficiency The World Journal of Men's Health (impact factor: 5.4)).

Professor Kim Hyung-seok of the Department of Urology investigated the relationship between vitamin D and erectile dysfunction in about 530 male patients who came to our hospital with lower urinary tract symptoms (urinary incontinence, nocturnal urination, residual urine, etc.).

As a result of the study, the elderly over 60 years of age and moderate or severe lower urinary tract symptoms were independent risk factors for the development of erectile dysfunction in the entire patient group, but vitamin D did not show any particular association with erectile dysfunction.

However, as a result of additional analysis of about 220 people over the age of 60 who complained of moderate to severe dysuria, low vitamin D levels or vitamin D deficiency were found to be independent risk factors for erectile dysfunction.

Vitamin D is known to be related to cardiovascular diseases such as arteriosclerosis, hypertension, and diabetes, as well as benign diseases such as urology and benign prostatic hyperplasia and erectile dysfunction.

In particular, it is known that about half of patients who complain of moderate to severe lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia may be accompanied by erectile dysfunction symptoms.

Professor Kim Hyung-seok said, "So far, there has been no accurate domestic report on the clinical significance of vitamin D in male patients with lower urinary tract symptoms and erectile dysfunction. found an association with vitamin D deficiency.”

Professor Kim further explained, "Further studies are needed to determine whether vitamin D supplementation is actually effective in improving erection in these patients."

Meanwhile, Professor Kim Hyung-seok is conducting many clinical studies related to the pathophysiology and prognostic factors of various benign and malignant urinary diseases. [Reporter Lee Dong-seok]
