고양특례시 주엽어린이도서관이 약 한 달간의 노후 시설 개선 공사를 마치고 새롭게 문을 열었다.

고양특례시는 주엽어린이도서관이 지난 7월 3일부터 8월 2일까지 진행한 휴관 및 리모델링 공사를 완료하고 5일부터 정상 운영에 들어갔다고 밝혔다. 

이번 사업은 지역구 국회의원의 협조로 확보한 특별조정교부금을 활용해 추진됐다.

이번 리모델링은 노후화된 시설을 정비하고 이용자의 안전과 편의성을 높이는 데 중점을 뒀다.

먼저 노후 엘리베이터를 교체하고 외부 데크와 화장실을 전면 보수했으며, 어린이와 보호자, 장애인 등 누구나 편리하게 이용할 수 있도록 이동 동선과 공용공간도 개선했다.

특히 어린이들의 독서 경험을 더욱 풍성하게 할 수 있는 맞춤형 공간도 새롭게 조성됐다. 

복층 구조의 '다락'은 자유롭고 편안한 자세로 책을 읽을 수 있는 독서 공간으로 꾸며졌으며, '그림책 우주'는 그림책을 중심으로 어린이들의 상상력과 창의력을 키울 수 있는 특화 공간으로 마련됐다.

또한 영유아와 보호자가 함께 안전하게 머물며 책을 접할 수 있도록 매트와 유아 도서를 갖춘 아기 독서공간도 새롭게 선보였다.

도서관은 공사 기간 동안 서가와 도서를 재배치하고 집기류를 정비하는 한편, 공간 점검과 자료 정리를 마무리해 시민들이 더욱 쾌적한 환경에서 도서관을 이용할 수 있도록 준비를 마쳤다.

주엽어린이도서관 관계자는 "공사 기간 동안 기다려주신 시민 여러분께 감사드린다"며 "새롭게 조성된 '다락', '그림책 우주', 아기 독서공간을 통해 어린이들이 책과 더욱 가까워지고 가족 모두가 편안하게 머물며 휴식할 수 있는 도서관이 되기를 바란다"고 말했다.
