사단법인 영토지킴이 독도사랑회가 고려인과 사할린동포들에게 우리 영토와 역사에 대한 의미를 되새기는 특별한 시간을 마련했다.

독도사랑회는 지난 27일부터 30일까지 3박 4일 일정으로 경주와 울릉도, 독도를 잇는 역사·문화 탐방 프로그램을 진행했다고 밝혔다.

이번 행사는 행정안전부와 울릉군, 울릉군의회의 후원으로 마련됐으며, 아성다이소와 미예누리화장품이 협찬에 참여했으며 특히 미예누리화장품은 참가한 고려인과 사할린동포들에게 화장품을 전달하며 따뜻한 응원의 마음을 전했다.

탐방에는 '독도는 우리 땅'으로 잘 알려진 가수 정광태 교수와 길종성 독도사랑회장을 비롯해 고려인과 사할린동포, 자원봉사자 등 33명이 함께했고 참가자들은 첫 일정으로 천년고도 경주의 첨성대와 월정교, 동궁과 월지 등을 둘러보며 신라 역사와 독도의 역사적 배경을 살펴본 뒤 울릉도와 독도를 방문해 우리 영토의 의미를 되새기는 시간을 가졌다.

길종성 회장은 “독도의 역사는 신라 이사부 장군의 우산국 정벌과 함께 시작됐으며, 그 이후 독도는 대한민국의 역사와 함께해 온 소중한 영토”라며 “이번 탐방이 해외동포들이 우리 역사와 문화를 직접 체험하고 자긍심을 키우는 계기가 되길 바란다.”고 말했다.

다만 탐방 과정에서는 참가자들이 독도 내 한국령 표지석 인근까지 이동하지 못한 점에 대해 아쉬움을 나타냈으며 독도사랑회는 당초 한국령 표지석까지 이동하는 일정을 계획했지만 현장 관리 절차에 따라 접근이 제한되면서 일부 참가자들이 아쉬움을 표했다고 설명했다.

송길화 전 광주광역시교원단체총연합회장은 “해외에서 오랜 세월을 살아온 동포들의 마음을 조금 더 세심하게 헤아렸다면 좋았을 것이라는 아쉬움이 남는다.”고 말했다.

한편 2002년 창립한 독도사랑회는 독도 홍보와 영토 수호 활동을 꾸준히 이어오고 있는 시민단체이고 2004년에는 울릉도~독도 수영 횡단을 성공적으로 추진했으며, 최근에는 동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 RISE사업단과 경영학과 LOHOS 봉사단과 함께 유네스코 IOC 해양문해력 프로그램을 운영하는 등 다양한 독도 홍보 활동을 펼치고 있다.
