고양특례시가 운영하는 예술창작공간 해움이 한일 양국의 스트리트 아트 문화를 기록과 아카이브의 관점에서 조명하는 특별전 '거리에서 온 아카이브(RAW DATA FROM THE STREETS)'를 선보인다.

이번 전시는 해움 4기 입주작가인 지알원(GR1)이 기획한 프로젝트로, 오는 8월 5일부터 16일까지 해움에서 열린다.

그래피티는 도시의 벽과 담벼락을 무대로 스프레이 페인트 등을 활용해 표현하는 대표적인 거리 예술이지만, 작품이 언제든 지워질 수 있는 일시적인 특성을 지닌다. 

이번 전시는 이러한 한계를 넘어 사진이라는 기록 매체를 통해 그래피티 문화가 품고 있는 시간과 서사, 그리고 창작 과정을 아카이브 형태로 담아내는 데 초점을 맞췄다.

전시에는 기획자인 지알원을 비롯해 한국과 일본의 그래피티 작가 33명이 참여한다. 

완성된 작품은 물론 작업을 준비하는 과정과 동료들과의 교류, 현장의 분위기 등 일반 대중에게 쉽게 공개되지 않았던 그래피티 문화의 다양한 순간을 함께 소개하며 거리 예술의 또 다른 면모를 보여줄 예정이다.

전시는 세 가지 형식으로 구성돼 관람객들에게 그래피티 문화를 다각도로 경험할 수 있는 기회를 제공한다.

실내 전시장에서는 약 1,800여 점에 달하는 사진 아카이브가 벽면을 가득 채운다. 

거리 곳곳에서 수집된 방대한 사진들은 그래피티 문화의 형성과 변화 과정을 보여주는 '원자료(Raw Data)' 역할을 하며, 관람객들은 사진을 따라가며 거리 예술가들의 활동과 관계망을 자연스럽게 살펴볼 수 있다.

해움 외부 윈도우 갤러리에는 참여 작가들의 소형 캔버스 작품이 전시된다. 

사진이 그래피티 문화의 기록과 맥락을 보여준다면, 캔버스 작품은 각 작가만의 독창적인 조형 언어와 개성을 직관적으로 감상할 수 있도록 구성됐다.

독립출판 프로젝트도 함께 진행된다. 

참여 작가들은 자신들의 사진과 드로잉, 작업 노트를 200×140㎜ 규격의 소규모 잡지 형태로 제작해 선보이며, 거리에서 사라질 수 있는 기록을 출판물이라는 지속 가능한 매체로 확장하는 새로운 시도를 제안한다.

전시 개막일인 8월 5일 오후 4시에는 특별한 오프닝 행사도 마련된다. 

해움 외부 벽면에서는 그래피티 라이브 페인팅이 진행돼 관람객들이 작품이 완성되는 과정을 현장에서 직접 감상할 수 있으며, DJ 파티도 함께 열려 전시의 분위기를 한층 풍성하게 만들 예정이다.

전시는 무료로 관람할 수 있으며 관람 시간은 오전 10시부터 오후 6시까지다. 매주 월요일은 휴관한다.

Haeum, an art creation space operated by the Special City of Goyang, presents a special exhibition titled 'RAW DATA FROM THE STREETS,' which sheds light on the street art cultures of both Korea and Japan from the perspective of documentation and archiving.

This exhibition is a project planned by GR1, a resident artist of the 4th cohort at Haeum, and will be held at Haeum from August 5 to 16.

Graffiti is a representative form of street art expressed using spray paint and other materials on urban walls and fences, but it possesses a temporary nature in that the works can be erased at any time. This exhibition focuses on transcending these limitations to capture the time, narratives, and creative processes inherent in graffiti culture in an archive format through the medium of photography.

The exhibition features 33 graffiti artists from Korea and Japan, including curator GR1.

It aims to showcase another facet of street art by introducing not only completed works but also various moments of graffiti culture that are not easily revealed to the general public, such as the preparation process, interactions with colleagues, and the atmosphere of the sites.

The exhibition is organized into three formats, providing visitors with the opportunity to experience graffiti culture from multiple perspectives.

In the indoor exhibition space, an archive of approximately 1,800 photographs fills the walls.

The vast collection of photographs gathered from every corner of the streets serves as "raw data" illustrating the formation and evolution of graffiti culture, allowing visitors to naturally explore the activities and networks of street artists by following the images.

Small canvas works by the participating artists are displayed in the Haeum outdoor window gallery. While the photographs provide a record and context of graffiti culture, the canvas works are designed to allow viewers to intuitively appreciate each artist's unique visual language and individuality.

An independent publishing project is also being held concurrently.

Participating artists are producing and presenting their photographs, drawings, and work notes in the form of small-scale magazines measuring 200×140 mm, proposing a new approach to expanding records that might otherwise disappear from the streets into a sustainable medium known as publication.

A special opening event will be held on August 5 at 4:00 PM, the opening day of the exhibition.

Live graffiti painting will take place on the exterior walls of Haeum, allowing visitors to witness the artwork's completion firsthand. A DJ party will also be held to further enrich the atmosphere of the exhibition.

Admission to the exhibition is free, and viewing hours are from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The venue is closed every Monday.
